Bronx, New York, 2012
Rodney Leon Architects & GENSLER
The site is located on a triangular lot in the Bronx south of Yankee Stadium. The lot is currently occupied by a 3 story parking garage and is bounded by River Avenue to the East, East 157th Street to the North and East 153rd street to the West. The general strategy for the site proposes a Hotel and Conference Center in conjunction with proposed complementary programming to stakeholders, interests and investments in the area.
In the last few years there has been significant and exciting urban commercial, recreational and infrastructure development taking place in the vicinity of Yankee Stadium. The opening of the New Yankee Stadium in April of 2009 was the most significant catalyst for development in the neighborhood over the last few years. The new stadium anchors the western end of the vibrant East 161st street commercial corridor. Perhaps the most spectacular aspect of the site is the dramatic unobstructed view to the north overlooking Macombs Dam Park ball fields and directly at the imposing southern facade of Yankee Stadium.
